AT&T is the largest provider of mobile telephone services in the United States. With its $171 billion revenue (2020) and approximately 230 000 employees (2021) it is the largest provider of mobile telephone services in the United States.

They store all types of personal information regarding their customers which only makes any attack on their systems absolutely critical. The following information had been spotted on a well known hacking forum.

Around 70 million Social Security Numbers along with Dates of Birth among other personal information had been offered for on an auction with a starting price of $200,000 by a well-known organization called ShinyHunters.

ShinyHunters are a hacker organization that is involved with the leakage of numerous databases in the past. Among the affected companies by them are names like Microsoft, Tokopedia and Nitro PDF 

The organization had posted samples of the data which contains information like names, addresses and other information of users.

A sample of the decrypted values for Date of Birth and Social Security Numbers has also been posted which they claim will also be delivered upon purchasing the whole database.

The company itself is no stranger to data breaches and has been exposed in such in the past. In 2010 around 114,000 e-mails of customers were leaked online and in 2015 they were fined $25 million dollars regarding a theft of details of about 280,000 people from call centers from various countries.

The damages have not yet been confirmed and AT&T have yet to respond regarding this incident.
